Lego League Competitions

Lego League Competitions

Posted by spadmin

(December 19, 2023) — This year, our Lego League had 35 students in fifth through eighth grades. These students formed four teams. They learned how to build and program robots, identified a problem in their community and solved it in a way that impacted others and did it all with gracious professionalism. In December, all four St. Philomena Lego League teams completed their qualifier tournaments.

Our sixth grade team, the Reading Rangers, competed on Dec. 2, 2023 at the Limestone qualifier. Their high score on the robot table run was 275 points. Putting them in 10th place out of 30 teams.

The St. Philomena Sponge Boberts, our combined sixth and seventh grade team, also competed on Dec. 2, 2023 at the Limestone qualifier. Their high score on the robot table run was 280 points. Placing them ninth, out of 30 teams.

This year’s all new fifth grade team, the St. Philomena Tigers Tech, competed on Dec. 16, 2023 at the Decatur qualifier. Their high score on the robot table run was 145 points. Putting them in 17th place out of 19 teams. Special thanks to Fr. Daniel Dionesotes for helping them with their innovation project. This team learned a lot this year and is already talking about next year. It will be great to see what their future holds.

The Rocking Robots, our sixth and eighth grade team, competed on Dec. 16, 2023 at the Decatur qualifier. Their high score on the robot table run was 285 points. Good for fifth place out of 19 teams. They earned awards for their T-shirt design, the Champion’s Finalist Award and qualified to advance to the Sectional Tournament in January.

A special “paws up!” to all the parents who volunteered their time as coaches and mentors to make this season possible.
