St. Philomena’s extracurricular offerings provide outlets for students to nurture and grow their existing talents and explore new ones, while making friends with students who share their interests. With programs in the arts, academics, clubs, and community service, St. Philomena students have a variety of extracurricular options that are not only fun, but also serve to develop confidence and build leadership and teamwork skills.

Art Club

Art Club is open to grades 3-8 and meets monthly in 3 sections: 3rd, 4th, and 5th-8th. Each month we work on a new project using unique materials and creativity to experiment and learn new techniques.

LEGO League

LEGO League is part of an international organization that promotes science and technology and is open to students in grades 5-8.

The organization holds regional, state, and international competitions each year, based on a new challenge and theme.

“The 2024-2025 FIRST® LEGO® League Season theme is Submerged where students build and code an autonomous LEGO Education robot to complete a series of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Science) related missions. FIRST LEGO League teams will use creative thinking and LEGO® technology to explore the layers of the ocean and bring their learnings and ideas to the surface as they “sea” into the future.

FIRST LEGO League challenges kids to think like scientists and engineers. During the Submerged season, teams will also choose and solve a real-world problem in the Project. Throughout their experience, teams will operate under FIRST LEGO League’s signature set of Core Values, celebrating discovery, teamwork, and Gracious Professionalism®.” Click here to register for the 2024-2025 Lego League teams. There is a fee for the team to help cover the cost of scripts and entry fees. The team also enjoys an end-of-the-year pizza party to celebrate. Practices begin after Christmas break once-a-week.
