Art of Living Camp

This Summer St. Philomena Parish offered a camp for children entering Kindergarten through eighth grade called the Art of Living. The title and concept coming from an Opus Dei Camp that teaches high school students life skills such as hospitality, cooking, sewing, character formation, and so forth. The young children were given the opportunity to work with their hands as they created materials for a prayer table at home. Items such as scripture cards and rosaries. They also had the opportunity to bake bread, set the table for friends, and physical activities like balancing, skipping, and playing catch.
The middle school and junior high students had the opportunity to work with wood. Sanding, staining, sealing, and assembling a prayer table for their home and also one for the younger children in the camp. They also had time cooking, sewing, drawing, painting and making rosaries as well. On the last day everything was displayed for the week for the participants to take home. A prayer table gives a special place for the Holy Bible, giving reverence to this great gift given to us by God. It also provides a sacred space in the home to go into our “inner room” to speak to God heart to heart as He invites us to do.
Thank you to the families who signed their children up for the camp and are many parishioners who volunteered their time, talent and treasures!
