Holy Saturday: Easter Vigil Mass

20 Apr 2019

Saturday 08:00 pm to 10:00 pm

Venue - St. Philomena Church

During the Easter Vigil, we enter the church in silence and darkness as we commemorate the death of our Lord Jesus on Good Friday and the empty tomb on Easter Saturday. We invite you to join in the silence and commemoration

You will be invited to stand at the solemn beginning of the Vigil as the Easter fire and candle is lit outside. The Easter candle symbolizes the light of Christ and is carried into the church by those being received into the Catholic faith. We will then turn on the lights and ring the bells to celebrate the Resurrection of Christ.

The Easter Vigil is different than our Sunday worship. Our worship is in the form of a liturgy called the Mass. The Mass has two parts, Liturgy of the Word and Liturgy of the Eucharist. During the Easter Vigil Mass there will be four parts: The Solemn Beginning of the Vigil, Liturgy of the Word, Reception of the Sacraments, and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. The Liturgy will be two hours in length.
