Fall Adult Study: This week’s Sheen study is Thurs., Nov. 21 from 6:30-8pm. Our 3rd grade Brownies are conducting a hat and glove drive, donating the items to Sophia’s Kitchen and local nursing homes. They have a collection box in the vestibule of the church this week. If you’d like to contribute adult size hats and/or gloves, please bring them through this Sun., Nov. 24. Thank you for your support.
Our principal, Mr. Jack Dippold, just launched a podcast for our school called “Tiger Tales.” We’d love all of our parishioners to take a listen. It’s a great way to learn about what’s going on at St. Philomena School. Go to https://www.stphils.com/school/about-us/recent-news/ and take a listen!
Giving Trees will be put up in the Link the weekend of Nov. 23 & 24 in advance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Please follow the directions on the tags and return all gifts with tags by the 7:30pm Mass on Dec. 8. On the tree will be tags for gifts for parish families, items for the Women’s Care Center and monetary donations for Haiti. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
There will be a second collection this weekend for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development.
Started in 2012, #GivingTuesday is known to kick off the charitable season. People across the globe embrace this day of giving in the height of consumerism around the holidays—it’s a breath of fresh air. It reminds people to give back in a meaningful way after the hustle and bustle of shopping. This year, #GivingTuesday is Dec. 3. We will once again participate with donations going toward our church endowment fund. Please prayerfully consider what your family can do to help us with this fund raising effort, then on Dec. 3 go to www.stphils.com and click on the green DONATE button at the top and put your donation to the fund St. Philomena Parish Endowment. If you’d like to give in a traditional way, we appreciate those gifts as well. Thank you for your support. Contact the parish office with any questions.
Thursday, Nov. 21 is National Day of Appreciation for Catholic School Principals. Special thanks to our principals for all they do for our schools, students and families: Mr. Jack Dippold, St. Philomena School and Sr. Sara Kowal, Peoria Notre Dame High School.
It is a tradition at St. Philomena for parishioners to bring their Thanksgiving meal bread to the altar before Mass on Thanksgiving day. The bread is then blessed by the priest before the end of Mass. We invite all parishioners to take part in this lovely tradition at the 9am Mass on Thanksgiving Day.
No Scrip sales on Nov. 30/Dec. 1 weekend so our volunteers can enjoy the holiday weekend. Be sure to purchase your Scrip needs this weekend or Monday-Wednesday (8am-4pm) in the parish office.
The parish office will be closed Nov. 28 & 29 for the Thanksgiving holiday. Please visit us Mon.-Wed. next week (Nov. 25-27) during regular office hours, 8am-4pm, for any needs.
