Start saving shoes….your old shoes can save lives with safe water! This summer, thanks to the local efforts of Illinois American Water, we will once again collect new and gently used shoes. All shoes — flip-flops, sandals, tennis shoes, clogs, dress shoes, garden shoes and more — will be donated to WaterStep (waterstep.org). Usable shoes are sold to an exporter, and the funds raised help bring clean water to those in need. Throughout June, July and August here at St. Philomena, we will need help weekly bagging shoes as well as loading and bringing them to the Illinois American Water facility at 8400 N University. Because we typically collect a LARGE amount of shoes, it is important that these tasks be done weekly so the piles don’t become overwhelming. Bagging is easiest done after Mass on Sunday and hauling better at the beginning of the week (Monday or Tuesday). Bagging is a great activity for a family. If you are interested in helping with this project, contact Rhonda Parker in the parish office or use this Sign Up Genius: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080948a5ab2aa0ff2-shoes
If you would like more information about donating to the Invest in Kids Scholarship Program that was discussed after Mass a couple of weeks ago, please speak with Father David or our principal, Mr. Jack Dippold (309-685-1208 or jackdipp@stphils.com). You still have time to donate and make a difference for many of our families.
The Scrip buying year for tuition ends on May 31, 2019 (THIS FRIDAY!). Purchases made on or before this date will be credited toward your tuition for 2019-20. Purchases made after that date will begin accumulating for 2020-21. If you have questions, contact the parish office or stop at the Scrip table after Mass. Rebate amounts will be available by July so you know your tuition adjustment.
Our stewardship commitment form is now available online on our newly redesigned website (Thanks WebDesign309!). It’s super easy and super quick to let us know how you can share your time and talent with your parish community: https://www.stphils.com/church/serve/stewardship-commitment/
We will host a Diocesan holy hour for vocations on Tuesday, June 11 at 6:30pm in the church. All are welcome.
First Wednesday Confession is next week, June 5 from 5-6pm in the church. All are welcome. Tell a friend!
If you are an Amazon shopper, consider using the URL smile.amazon.com/ch/37-0794772. It’s the same as shopping on the “regular” Amazon, except AmazonSmile then donates to St. Philomena Church & School. Don’t forget to purchase your Amazon Scrip, too. Amazon Scrip works on AmazonSmile.
Would you and your family like to take up the gifts at the offertory during weekend Mass? If you attend the 4:30pm, 9am or 11am Mass and are interested just stop and see an usher on the way in or sign up in the offertory binder located in the main vestibule of church. If the Mass intention is for a family member or friend it’s a nice way to participate as well.
