Dear friend,

I’ve had several people ask when the summer assignment ends for Deacon Daniel Dionesotes. His last Sunday at St. Philomena will be next week, Sunday, July 31. The summer assignments always progress so quickly. Summer around the parish is quite different from the school academic year and the seminarians have many demands on their time outside the parish assignment. Deacon Daniel helped with the Diocesan Emmaus Days Retreat for boys this past week. He has enjoyed many opportunities to bless parishioner houses and visit some of the homebound in the parish. In addition to the serving and preaching of the weekend Masses, Deacon Daniel has assisted at the Buehler Home Mass. While the experience of the school is limited to the summer renewal projects, the brief summer assignment does give a good overview of the parishioners, the weekly schedule of a parish, and the daily variety to ministry, which can truly change every day. Thank you for providing him a nice welcome to the parish. He certainly has done a nice job with his homilies. He promises to be a good preacher as a priest. As he is in his final days at the parish, if he hasn’t been able to schedule a house blessing or visit at your request, he won’t have the time to fulfill that request before leaving. The summer goes so quickly!

As the summer ends, we are finishing the summer renewal projects on campus. Every year we try to not only clean and maintain our parish campus, but actually renew parts of the campus for longevity. The break from lots of people on campus allows us to not only clean the buildings, but also prepare for a stronger future. This year we not only cleaned the classrooms and polished the floors, but also were able to get the parking lot seal coated, upgrade the landscaping at our Emery properties, and renovate the two-story brick convent for two Pre-K 4-year-old classrooms. The renovation is on schedule as the new flooring was installed this week. We have so many to thank for this expansion to our school program. The vision of our principal, Mr. Jack Dippold, the program vision opportunities provided by Jenny Witt, the assembly of classroom furniture by several of our dads, and the tireless work of our head of maintenance, Albert Tony. Many hands have participated in the project, but its success is due to Albert’s management and participation in the project. I am so excited to have a long-term renewal of the convent and a school program that will make great use of the building. Mrs. Krista Dippold will continue as a PK4 teacher in one of the classrooms, while Mrs. Jen Williams agreed to move from our three-year-old pre-k to this new PK4 position. We are so grateful for Mrs. Williams’ years of service to our three-year-olds and her willingness to help us expand our school. Please keep all of our school staff, faculty, students, and parents in your prayers as we prepare to begin a new school year next month.
