As a reminder, the Assumption of Mary on August 15 is a holy day of obligation. We will have the vigil Mass on Wednesday, August 14 at 5:30pm, with Mass on Thursday, August 15 at 7am, 8am, and 5:30pm. Please see the August 11 bulletin for times at other local churches.

PLEASE NOTE: Sheridan Road is closed from War Memorial through the Florence intersection. Illinois American Water announced the closure to replace the water main in that area. We are told that work will be completed by August 16. You can enter our campus from Albany off of Sheridan if you are driving north (from Forrest Hill) but will not be able to go any further north. Twelve Oaks is still accessible.

Fall sports (soccer, golf, cross country, girls basketball) registration for St. Philomena School is still open. Register and pay online at www.leaguelineup.com/stphilsathletics. Soccer is open to registered parishioners of St. Philomena Parish who do not attend St. Philomena School. This only applies to soccer.

The first day of school at St. Philomena is Monday, August 19. If you attend daily Mass, please be aware of the increased traffic around campus. Remember you can park on the parish center side of the building and walk through to the church. All cars are asked to drive slow and with caution. And remember, mobile phone usage is also illegal in a school zone. Put down the phones, please.

If you are going to be in the chapel between 2-3pm on school days, do not park in the main lot as this is dismissal time. Early dismissal times are posted in the chapel.

A reminder that certain gates on campus will be closed with the start of school. The gate between the adoration chapel and rectory is closed during school hours on school days. The gate at the east edge of the school (by the playground) is closed all week and open only on the weekends for Mass.

Sunday Faith Formation is for our parish children in grades PreK-8 who do not attend St. Philomena School. If you are a returning family, please watch your email for registration instructions. Classes begin on September 8 with a parent meeting. If you are new to Faith Formation (including transferring from St. Philomena to a public school) or have questions, contact Father David Richardson or Jenny Witt at faithformation@stphils.com or call the parish office.

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, RCIA, is for non-Catholics, Catholics who are not Confirmed, and Catholics interested in learning more about the foundation of our beliefs as Catholics. All classes are taught by Father David and offer the opportunity to discover or deepen your relationship with God through time in scripture, study, prayer and fellowship. There is no obligation or expectation to join the Catholic Church. If you or someone you know is interested, join us for an informational meeting September 10 at 6:30pm in the Parish Center banquet room. Enter through the covered drop off doors. Weekly classes will be on Tuesdays 6:30-8:00pm beginning September 17. An RSVP to Jenny Witt is welcomed but not necessary. Childcare is offered for the informational meeting and the classes. If you have childcare needs, notify Jenny Witt in advance to reserve space for your child. For additional questions contact Father David.  Details can also be found online at https://www.stphils.com/church/ .
